We had the honor of designing the 1908 training complex for Feyenoord. This is the building where the club’s first team trains daily in a top-level sports environment. Inside the building, you will find offices, an auditorium, a restaurant, relaxation areas, and changing facilities with a wellness area.

Before we started designing, we visited several national and international training complexes together with Feyenoord to investigate the requirements that such a top-level sports environment truly needs to meet. The chronology of activities and the daily routine were the main starting points for creating an intuitive floor plan.
All facilities in the building are logically located, with the team’s changing room at the heart of the building.
Privacy for the players was very important in the design, and this is reflected in the clear formal language. The rear facade is designed as a shield of corten steel that continues into the roof overhang. This shield forms a barrier towards the public road on the dike and is the defining element of the design.
Spaces such as the changing rooms and the wellness area are therefore located at the rear of the building, where they offer complete privacy. The offices and sports medical facilities are situated at the glass front, where there is plenty of contact with the fields.
In addition to the building design, we also designed the surroundings of the building, such as the landscape, the large entrance gate, and the gatehouse.
