Topsports Centre De Koog

Topsportcentrum de Koog is located in Koog aan de Zaan. The facility covers more than 6,000 m2 and includes, in addition to a top-level sports hall, a sports hall for recreational sports with catering facilities and a sports medical center. There is also a branch of the Regio College with various classrooms. Many local sports clubs are based here, including KZ Hiltex; this korfball club is a major user of the top-level sports hall and the surrounding fields.

The pavilion

The new elite sports center consists of roughly five volumes. The largest are the elite sports hall and the recreational sports hall, which are connected lengthwise. The changing rooms, with multifunctional educational spaces above them, are positioned in a slender volume parallel to these halls. At the southeastern corner of the building, the entrance and functions that provide visual interaction between the building and its surroundings, such as the sports medical center, are located. At this spot, the building presents itself as a pavilion with a lot of transparency and an expressive architectural language.

Location

The building is situated on a mound. On the one hand, this anchors the complex in its surroundings, while on the other hand, the surrounding embankments, stairs, stands, and terraces create a high-quality recreational area. It is a place to optimally follow the game during outdoor matches or to relax after an intensive training evening.

Zaan colours

Both in the exterior, but especially in the interior, the use of color can truly be called ‘Zaans’. The interior is inspired by the fresh green surrounding landscape, which is so characteristic of the Zaan region. The colors create a connection between the different floors and give the whole a dynamic and sporty character.
