From the upstairs catering area, visitors have a view of both this square and the sports activities inside. An outdoor staircase connects this catering area directly to the outdoor space.
The central axis of the area, connecting all functions, will become the park's "aorta." This is where athletes, local residents, walkers, and visitors meet. Green spaces, seating, and play areas make the area attractive for all ages.
The new Sporthal Boshoven will be located at a junction of these routes. Together with the central sports square, it will form a recognizable landmark and the place where indoor and outdoor spaces meet. The sports hall will thus become not only a place for sports but also a catalyst for interaction, connection, and neighborhood vibrancy.
Our design aligns directly with the urban development vision. The undulating lines of the path structure and the circular shape of the square are echoed in the building's facades and entrance area, creating a dialogue between the building and its surroundings. The central square will include space for urban sports like 3x3 basketball and skateboarding.
The sports hall's internal organization was designed with clarity and ease of use in mind. A central axis runs through the building, providing logical routes to the changing rooms, stands, and halls. Spectators and athletes each have their own logical route, ensuring an optimal experience for both groups. The catering facilities play a key role: flexible in use, modular in design, and directly connected to both indoor and outdoor activities. This makes Sporthal Boshoven a venue not only for matches and training sessions, but also for social gatherings, events, and informal gatherings in the neighborhood.

A unique aspect is the use of aquathermy: heat and cooling are extracted from the nearby Zuid-Willemsvaart canal. In winter, the canal water provides sustainable heat, while in summer it provides natural cooling. This drastically reduces energy consumption.
With the new Sporthal Boshoven, Weert not only gains a modern sports complex but also a social beacon. The building and the square bring together athletes, local residents, and visitors. The sports hall strengthens the identity of Open Park Weert as a place for exercise, relaxation, socializing, and nature.
